Field schools are designed to teach the public about Israel, to guide hikers and tourists and familiarize them with the country’s nature and historical sites. Try out the simple rooms and benefit from the activities and programs

On this Page:

Hikers from the world over come to Israel to enjoy its scenic trails. Those who love hiking along riverbeds, trekking through mountains, walking in the forests, visiting caves or crawling through tunnels will be pleased to learn about accommodations very close to the trails – a chain of 26 attractive field schools the heart of the nature reserves operated by the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel.

Founded in 1953, the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel is a non profit environmental organization dedicated to preserving Israel’s scenic, natural, historical and cultural treasures.  The field schools were set up as part of the Society’s environmental education mission, and are designed to teach the public about Israel, to guide hikers and tourists and familiarize them with the country’s nature and historical sites.  Here you will find charming simple lodgings with modest rooms, a communal dining hall and a campus atmosphere.

Guests at the field schools benefit from a wide range of unique activities and programs which cater to individuals and to families:  guided hikes and bicycle and 4WD tours; romantic, moon-lit night walks; urban walking tours of historical and architectural gems; colorful art walks in nature; encounters with rare wildlife; outdoor challenges.  Those who prefer independent touring can receive guidance, maps and suggestions.

At Israel’s field schools you will have an opportunity to see the sun break through the desert; witness a mirage of a flood, gather colored sand into a glass bottle; tumble through sand dunes; release tiny sea turtles; and splash around in clear spring water.  These and other experiences await you amidst unspoiled natural surroundings and in close proximity to enchanting, isolated spots where you can enjoy magnificent nature at its purest.
