Skiing

Snow sports are probably not the first thing you associate when you imagine your Israel dream-vacation. But think again: the hallmark of this tiny land is the endless variety of its attractions, and snow is definitely among them!  At the very northern tip of Israel, its mild Mediterranean, desert and sub-tropical climates give way to Mount Hermon, with the snow coverage and the dry, cold conditions that make an ideal ski resort.

Mount Hermon, soaring some 6,000 feet high, has nearly 28 miles of ski runs. There is something for every skier, from beginners to advanced, including two runs that have been approved by the International Ski Federation as Olympic-standard. It has four chairlifts and five T-bars to ferry skiers and sightseers up the mountain. There is also a ski school, and a well equipped shop. There’s fun for non-skiers too: toboggan-riding for children, and a thrilling track-sled down a 950-yard course. On a rest between runs, or just to take in the view of the slopes and gorgeous surroundings, visitors can enjoy a bite to eat, a cup of hot cocoa or a bowl of soup in the glass-enclosed restaurant at the upper station.

Ski passes for two, three and four days are available, as are package deals including lodging at nearby bed-and-breakfast accommodations, passes and equipment rental.

And there’s more: After the snow melts in the spring, the heights of Hermon become an invigorating landscape of Alpine, summer-meadows where you’ll love discovering Hermon’s summer treasures: blooming wildflowers, soaring raptors and gorgeous vistas.
