Israel 60 – The Israeli Flag for the Future Project a Blue Fabric Mosaic Made by Jewish Communities Worldwide

Various Jewish communities, in Israel and around the world, are being approached to take part in this amazing endeavor. Community leaders, educators, youth advisors and others may order the materials for the flag: pieces of blue fabric, each 30 x 4o cm (11.8 x 15.7 in), accompanied by instructions.

The idea is for educators to lead workshops on themes related to Israel, Judaism, Zionism and/or Israel's 60th Independence Day, as seen through their eyes. Participants will then paint or draw on the fabric with suitable paint such as fabric spray-on paint or permanent markers. The meaningfully-decorated fabric pieces will be sent back to Israel, where they will be sewn together to form the two blue strips and the Star of David in the Israeli flag. The flag will be displayed in a prominent location in Jerusalem on Israel's 60th Independence Day.

Just imagine – four-year-olds from Chicago and 70-year-olds from Miami, youth-movement kids from Sydney and youth counselors from Moscow, college students from NYU and high school kids from Sderot, all collaborating on a special, meaningful gift for the State of Israel. A hand-crafted, deeply felt creation in blue and white, attesting to the solidarity and fellowship of all Jews, everywhere, on this very special occasion.
