When World War I ended, the statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was returned to its domicile in the Stella Maris Church in Haifa.

The event is since celebrated in an annual procession. Believers make a vow to help carry the statue up the slope of Mount Carmel.

Highlights of the feast

Haifa and Mount Carmel - The procession departs from the Chapel of the Holy Family, and proceeds to climb up Mount Carmel to the Stella Maris Church. Participants include the Patriarch of Jerusalem, bishops, priests and other religious figures, as well as the local Arab communities and Scouts.
