The Friars of the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land arrange the pilgrimage to the Jordan River. This tradition is unique to the Holy Land, unrelated to the worldwide Catholic feasts of Baptism.

Highlights of the feast

The event takes place at Qasr-el Yahud, east of Jericho, the site of Jesus’ Baptism. A procession takes the faithful to the Catholic Chapel on the riverbank, where a Mass is celebrated.
