Drive west this morning toward the Negev stopping at Tel Arad, to visit the fortress built by the kings of Judah and its wonderfully preserved temple.

Visit Tel Be'er Sheba to see the ruins of the fortress town from the period of the First Temple, and recall the biblical account of Abraham’s treaty with Abimelech king of the Philistines.

Continue to the Judean foothills past Tel Lakhish, destroyed by Sennacherib in his 701 BCE invasion of Judah. Pass Tel Maresha, fortified by Solomon’s son Rehoboam, and believed to be the birthplace of King Herod.

Drive through the Jewish National Fund’s picturesque British Park, and climb up Tel Azekah, to view the Elah Valley, the scene of the contest between David and Goliath. Drive on through the Ayalon Valley, where Joshua made the moon stand still, to Tel Aviv.

Enjoy the evening in the big city – dining, strolling and people-watching on Rothschild Boulevard, Sheinken Street, or at the Tel Aviv Port, among many other possibilities.

Overnight in Tel Aviv
