Tomb of the Baba Sali

The Baba Sali, Rabbi Israel Abuhazera, whose tomb in the Negev town of Netivot was the scion of a leading Moroccan rabbinical family, who came to live in Israel at the age of 70. People would gather at his home in Netivot to receive his blessing, especially for healing. On the anniversary of his death, 4 Shevat (in January), some 100,000 people flock to the tomb. A visit is an opportunity to observe the colorful customs of Israel’s large Moroccan Jewish community, including impromptu women’s singing and dancing,
