Things to See & Do

In the Vicinity
As the capital of Israel's North, Haifa serves as a base for visitors staying there, for quick day trips out of the city. Within half an hour's ride, tourist can visit the Druze villages adjacent to Haifa, or the nature reserves of Mt. Carmel. Just as rapidly, they may drive to Acre (north) and Caesarea (south).

The Druze Villages
In Isfiyah and Daliat El Carmel, the Druze villages adjacent to Haifa, visitors will encounter the Druze culture. The colorful Daliat El Carmel market offers Druze handicrafts, traditional food, Druze pita bread and more. Tour the old quarter of the village and pay a visit to Oliphant House. In Isfiyah, the Center for Bedouin Heritage - Albadieh - offers Bedouin hospitality in a traditional tent, stories on Bedouin tribal life, religion and tradition, and activity workshops for children. A short distant from the villages, the Mukhraka is located, where a Carmelite monastery stands on the spot where the prophet Elijah fought with and defeated the prophets of the Canaanite god Baal.

Carmel Park
The Carmel Park covers an area of about 21,000 acres, making it Israel's largest national park. It has scores of delightful green corners, perfect for a picnic in the heart of nature.
The park also offers special trails for bicycle, jeep and ATV tours., all of which pass through natural Middle East forests, archaeological ruins, holy sites, flora and fauna, as well as areas affording magnificent views.

Rosh Hanikra
The Rosh Hanikra cliff is unique, due to the grottoes carved into it by eons of breaking waves. A cable car takes visitors down from the cliff to the grotto. There is an audio-visual presentation. "Railway to Peace," as well as a restaurant, a souvenir shop and nighttime coffee shop.

Habonim Beach & Caesarea
Habonim Beach
Nature Reserve is one of the loveliest and most interesting of Mediterranean beaches. The natural beach is located within the reserve with the largest number of inlets, carved out by waves and wind, sandy recesses, reefs, caves and weaves that crash to the shore.
South of the nature reserve is Caesarea, an ancient port city that served as capital of Israel during Roman and Byzantine times. Caesarea's ancient Roman amphitheater has been renovated and reconstructed and it is a venue today for culture and entertainment. There is also an aqueduct from Roman times, and impressive archaeological findings.

The Wine Route in Zichron Ya'acov
The Wine Route is a reconstruction of the main street of the village of Zichron Ya'acov, founded in the late 19th century by Baron Edmond. It begins at the cemetery and Visitors' Center, concluding at the Carmel Mizrahi Winery. The settlement's historical sites are located along the route, as well as wineries and wine cellars.
The local picturesque coffee houses, galleries and restaurants scattered along the route add to the area's unique charm. During the summer months, art fairs and street performances take place in Zichron Ya'acov, and there are performing artists, too. The town is also home to Aharonson House - commemorating an important chapter in the early modern history of pre-State Israel.
Recommended are the Ramat Hanadiv Gardens.
