If you’re an avid skier but your budget can’t quite stretch to the ever-more expensive ski resorts in the Alps, why not try something a little bit different and head for the slopes in Israel this season?
It is a little known fact that Israel has a world class ski resort complete with 28 miles of runs, 2 Olympic-standard slopes (approved by the International Ski Federation) and high altitude off-piste dips for the more advanced skier. Located in the upper northern reaches, of the country, near Nazareth, Mount Hermon is the ideal spot for ski enthusiasts of all abilities.
For those who aren’t so steady on their ski legs, Mount Hermon has many alternative activities to enjoy including rafting, trekking, horseback riding and cycling for lovers of the great outdoors. Or for those of you who prefer to stay snuggled up inside why not sample one of the superb eateries, or opt for a relaxing deep muscle massage at the spa? If none of that takes your fancy then you can simply head for a hot chocolate by the nearest open log fire…
Travelling to Mount Hermon from Ben Gurion, Tel Aviv’s international airport is simple, with shuttle bus services to the region available throughout the season. The drive takes around 2 hours so you won’t waste time or money on expensive car hire along the way.
Resort height (m): between 1,600 and 2,040 meters (5,250 and 6,692 feet)
Total km of marked trails: 14 trails totalling 45 kilometers (28 miles)
Good for: all levels of skiers from beginner to expert (two runs have been approved by the International Ski Federation as Olympic-standard)
